APAT Optoelectronics Components Co., Ltd. (APAT OE) says it has successfully developed the XGS-PON/XG-PON+GPON Combo OLT transceiver to deliver a solution for hybrid access for 10G PON applications. This approach will enable carriers to attain a seamless upgrade from GPON to XG-PON or XGS-PON.
A carrier can offer 10G broadband service and the existing GPON service concurrently in the same network by replacing GPON OLT line cards with Combo PON line cards, according to APAT OE.
The XGS PON/XG PON/GPON Combo OLT transceiver eliminates the necessity to change the existingfiber-optic netword, or to take up additional floor space, by reusing the network's current equipment and ODN. APAT OE says carriers can upgrade ONUs based on the customers' requests to achieve a scalable upgrade.
Last March, APAT OE unveiled expansions to its product line at OFC 2017 in Los Angeles, including the optical components, transceivers, and active optical cables (AOCs) it purchased from NeoPhotonics . APAT OE is further expanding its product line with this transceiver.
The XGS PON/XG PON/GPON Combo OLT transceiver has a 29dB link budget in D1/N1-B+ class, and is currently in pilot production, the company says.
